OK ... so it's been far too long since the last update, so I'll try to catch up and bring everyone up to speed with everything thats been happening over the past few weeks.
School
Life at school continues to be fun but busy. The mechanical course is split into 3 parts:
- general section
- airframe section
- powerplant section
The theory of the general part is now finished and we are well underway with the airframe section. When this is done in April (not long now) we can then take the official FAA exams for both those sections. Assuming I pass this, then by rights I will have a license to work on the 'airframe' part of an aircraft ... a scary thought. After this we can focus fully on the powerplant section right up until the course finishes in August.
Christmas & New Years break
What a great time I had. I flew out to Seattle, Washington, and stayed with my cousin and her family. I got to see all my other relatives that live in California as they came up to visit. There was also quite a few people from Bible school passing through Seattle, and about 12 of us Capernwray veterns got to go our for dinner one night. It was a really fun, and relaxing trip and the money I saved on not coming home really helps towards training and tools. Oh yeah, there were many highlights from that trip, but definitely getting a chance to watch some proper English Premiership football was a plus. I didn't realise how much I miss 'Match of the day' on Saturaday nights!
Skiing
Some of you may know about my slightly different outreach opportunity that has arisen in a local ski resort. Essentially the resort has made up a position for me as a 'host'. I now spend my Saturadays meeting coaches that arrive, helping them check in, chatting and getting to know the groups and of course ... skiing on the hill. In return I get a free lift pass, free ski equipment, and a wonderful opportunity to explain why I'm here and share Christ. For those that are interested, here is the website of the resort (www.timberridgeski.com).
Weather
It wouldn't be a true British update without mentioning the weather. All I can say is ... 'Oh boy it cold!'.Just the other day we hit a low of -18 C (without wind chill). Thats fun to ski in! The roads were littered with accidents, police were saying don't go out. Shops closed early. Schools were cancelled, and even all the church services in the area were cancelled on Sunday (that's a first for me!). We got about 2 feet of snow in as many days and it was beautiful. My little car seems to handle pretty well in the snow and personally I love it! My hand-braking skills are definitely improving.
Well ... that's pretty much it for now. I hope your are all doing well ... keep in touch ... Nev
